Doh!

Kelly and I have this routine in the morning. We have breakfast together, read the LA Times and share little bits of what we find interesting with each other. It's the most ordinary of traditions but it is maybe the most precious part of my day.

There is a nineteen year age difference between my man and me, a fact that most of the time goes completely unnoticed by both of us. Despite the decades between us, we always seem to have so much to talk about, something I attribute to our shared appetite for current events, politics, music, art and the curiosity of humanity as a whole. Every once in a while we'll stumble into territory where our age difference becomes abundantly, even embarrassingly obvious. This happened this morning.

Over eggs, coffee and generously buttered toast Kelly looks up from the front page and says, "You know, I really don't believe in nuclear energy."

I look up slowly, pulled from the article I was reading about the disappointing weekend "Borat" had and say, "Huh?"

"I don't believe in nuclear energy," he repeats and then takes a sip of coffee.

"Wait, what do you mean nuclear energy?" I ask my face full of confusion.

His is blank and then disbelieving as he processes what I am saying, "You don't know what nuclear energy is?" he asks incredulously.

"What? You mean like the place Homer worked?" I ask. The Simpson's reference spills out of my mouth before I can filter and respond with something less idiotic.

A huge grin spreads across his face and he says, "Uh yeah. That's exactly what I'm talking about."

Awesome.
